Creating an audience with audience builder

Audience

An Audience is a segment of your customers (and potential customers) defined by a set of common attributes and or behaviours. They are built by selecting filters on top of the customer and marketing data that has been ingested into Wondaris within the “Audience Builder”.

These can include filters to help you manage compliance such as “Opt-In” or other preferences identified at the point of data collection.

Compliance Tip - Always consider how the audience will be used and ensure you include relevant consent fields to meet local data privacy laws, including but not limited to GDPR, AAP, CCPA. If you are unsure about how, please contact support or get in touch with your implementation partner.

Wondaris does not save the audience data itself when saving, but saves the rules that define the audience - essentially creating dynamic audiences based on your data. The actual customers included in the audience is calculated only at the time when the data is sent to a destination, via activation.

This means that if a customer’s data changes, they could be added to or removed from an “audience” due to that change. A simple example of this is if you create an audience of customers who have purchased in the last 30 days, as time moves on customers will be added to and removed from this audience because of the dynamic nature of the date filter.

Glossary of Terms

  1. Data source: A data source is a pre-defined view of your customer data within the CDP. This could simply be all customers or prefiltered to include a sub-set of your customer data, such as loyalty customers, customer by region, customer by brand or any other number of specific traits or attributes to wish to apply.

Filtering data at the source allows you to create Audiences that are only relevant within those applied filters, It is important to ensure you are using the right data source for your desired use cases.
