Migrating to the new Google Ads API

Migrating to the new Google Ads API

Change

Google Ads activations stopped working after the April 19th 2022 release

This problem was caused by an update to the Google Ads API which we released in the April 19th 2022 release. It has to do with added security in the API, which requires extra parameters to be sent when uploading customer data to Google Ads.

This does not impact the Customer Match Uploader (CMU) integration with Google Ads - if you are unsure which you are using, feel free to reach out to support@wondaris.com.

Migration Process

  1. Go to Saved Destinations and find the affected destination

  2. Click on Edit

  3. Double check the settings & add the newly added configuration setting of “Login Customer ID” - if you can, choose your MCC (parent account), otherwise it is fine to choose the actual ads account you are wanting to send customer match data to - just make sure you have the correct permissions on the account you choose

  4. Click Update to save the configuration settings

  5. Reauthorise the connection:

    1. On the saved destination card, click the Tick (or Cross) in the top right hand corner

    2. Click the reauthorise button on the confirmation modal.
Note: if a destination connection is owned by someone else, the modal will state this - it is recommended to have that person complete the re-authorisation to ensure the correct permissions (but it is fine to take ownership if you wish).

    3. Follow the authorisation process in the integrating platform (make sure your browser is not blocking popups)

    4. Once you are presented with the saved destinations page again, the re-authorisation has completed.

  6. Go to Saved Activations and click edit on the activation that had the problem

  7. Force an update to the destination settings:

    1. When presented with the choice of destinations (step 2 in the activation workflow), choose a DIFFERENT destination to the one you just updated

    2. Click Next to load the mapping & destination configuration screen (step 3 in the activation workflow)

    3. Click Back to go back & select the freshly updated Google Ads destination again

    4. Click Next to load the mapping & destination configuration screen (step 3)

    5. Click on the Destination Configuration Tab and double check the Login Customer Account is displaying as per your updated configuration settings

    6. Finalise the activation setup. Note: you may need to remap the fields again.
